Students at a coaching session in the Student Success Center.

Who do I turn to for support?

When I first arrived at ASU as a freshman, I felt lonely and isolated. I have been a commuter student for all four years, and, at the beginning it was really tough. Now as a senior, ASU really has become my home away from home. I was able to achieve this sense of belonging and security from a few of the support teams on campus. Whether you’re a commuter like me, out-of-state, first-generation, or anything and everything in between, there are specific people and resources here to make ASU feel like home for you, too.

These people will always be in your court

Success Coaches

My success coach supported me throughout my first year. She was my cheerleader and helped connect me to research opportunities and student clubs, and was my catalyst for identifying a plan to achieve my academic goals. Now, as a success coach myself, I get to provide that same helpful direction to students looking to make the most of their student experience. Coaches are here to provide holistic and personalized support for everything from overcoming class struggles, uncertainties around your major, finding scholarships to help pay for college, and so much more.

You can call the Student Success Center at 480-935-3289 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to schedule an appointment with a coach. For more information, visit success.asu.edu.

Academic Advisors

My advisor has been my number one resource for anything academic related – from making plans for classes I need to take, to adding a minor. Your advisor is one of your most valuable resources and making an appointment to ask a question or just to touch base is easy and convenient.

Go to My ASU and look for the Academic Support Team box. You will see Academic Advising. From here, you will be able to directly schedule an appointment with an advisor from your college.

Tutors

ASU's Tutoring Centers on campus have been another supportive and convenient resource for me. Tutoring is completely free to students and is available in many subjects. There is even a Writing Center! I went specifically for math tutoring, and it really helped me to solidify concepts and get answers to questions. Even if you find yourself not needing specific help yet, you can pop in to work on homework and study, and a tutor is on-hand in case a question comes up. I recommend utilizing this resource before you may think you need it. Also, tutoring is available to you both online and in-person.

You can visit tutoring.asu.edu for more information about locations and hours.

Mental health counselors

Talking to a counselor is entirely FREE, available to you 24/7, and can be accessed from anywhere in the world! Open Call and Open Chat are two of the many ways counseling is available to you.

If you are in need of immediate assistance, you can also walk-in to any ASU Counseling Services location during business hours or call the ASU-dedicated Crisis Line available 24/7 at 480-921-1006.

For more information about these services, visit eoss.asu.edu/counseling.

We are here for you!

As you can see, there are so many people at ASU that are in your court. Holistic support that includes academics, mental health, and more are right at your fingertips. If you need advice or support in seeking any of these resources, I encourage you to make an appointment with the Student Success Center. We are your ultimate resource for anything at ASU related to your support and success.
